Sir Roger Scruton: British philosopher, writer, composer, teacher, student, and conservative. Sir Roger spent his lifetime pursuing beauty and truth and championing intellectual argument in Europe, the United States, and behind the Iron Curtain. In this first part of our interview, we will spend about 30 minutes engaged in conversation about philosophy, pursuit of truth, and several dual issues: foundations and constructions, elitism and anti-elitism. Near the end we listen as Roger discusses a particularly poignant distinction between a culture of repudiation and a culture of affirmation, important for our tense and troubling times.
